my obsession with convertible dresses continues…

I am officially obsessed with convertible/infinity/transformer/multi wear/multi way/multi-wrap dresses. They are truly amazing. It also started with one beautiful dress from Henkaa featured in this post.

Then I discovered the Ravon Transformer dress by Von Vonni through Ideeli (please join if you haven’t already) and I was hooked. I originally bought one to use as a bridesmaids dress for my friend Sarah’s wedding, but then this simple purchase blossomed into a full-on obsession.

One dress, infinite styles.

There are so many (infinite) ways to style these types of dresses in the front and back. Also another thing about the Ravon dress is the fabric is very luxurious. I prefer the Henkaa fabric a tad better as it is softer, like satin. But the Ravon fabric is also a polyester blend that has a very slight texture – it’s kind of matte instead of satin. The fabric is NOT like t-shirt or jersey material, so it’s much more dressy.

One last note about convertible dresses is that you get what you pay for.

I mentioned the Target Mossimo convertible dresses in my last post about convertible dresses as a less expensive option. I decided to go ahead and order a few of them to test and see if they’d be viable competition for Henkaa or Von Vonni dresses. I definitely do NOT recommend the Target twist and wrap dresses. 2 of them had the ugliest, cheapest feeling (like a cheapest, crappiest t-shirt) fabric that I didn’t even take them out of the package to try on. The other two were made of a  polyester fabric that were not like t-shirt material but were so cheap and scratchy. I ended up returning all of them. Not worth it at all.

Where to buy:

I’ve seen the Ravon Transformer dresses on Ideeli, but you can also find them on eBay and through VonVonni.com. Henkaa dresses are available through their site.

  1. i just ordered the target mossimo convertible dress and i love it! there were at least a couple of different materials, the one i have is like a sort of matte jersey with a slight sheen. it’s wrinkle free and perfect for vacation! i think these are a great inexpensive alternative to the henkaa (which i plan on getting!) and i also like the fact that it does not appear to be as pleated in the skirt. i thought it was a great buy at $29! thanks for the review!

    1. Hi Michelle, I’m really glad you liked your Mossimo convertible dress. It is definitely a great price. I ordered 3 different styles and was not impressed with the fabric at all, but that’s just me. Maybe Target has improved the construction of the dresses. Henkaa dresses are more expensive, but they are SO comfortable. The fabric on the Henkaa convertible dresses is really soft and amazing. And I think it looks better and feels better than any other brand that I’ve tried. I wore my Henkaa dress to my sis-in-law’s wedding last weekend, pictures should be posted soon!

  2. Have you tried the Transformer Convertible dress they have with TeamBuy? I’ve been debating about ordering that one but can’t find any reviews on it.

    1. Thank you so much! I think it’s a dress that’s worth the cost (which is not that much at all). You can style it in many many many different ways! I bet you’d love it! Keep your eyes on Ideeli (pls use my referral link above if youre not already a member) as they have a von vonni sale once per month usually.

  3. Hi,
I read a few blogs about the von vonni and am hearing that if you are above size 10 it is hard to put it on? Is this true. Do you have any Von Vonni dresses and do they fit? I just bought one on line for 59 which includes shipping from livingsocial.

    Thanks
    JK

    1. hi JK, it really depends on your body type. I am a size 10/12 (sometimes 14) and all my von vonni dresses fit me pretty well. But I am curvy and have broad shoulders and a smaller waist so it just depends on your body type. I did have 1 dress that I bought that wouldn’t even fit over my head, but I think that was a one-off. it looks like you got a great deal on yours. I hope it fits! xoxo

  4. I too am completely obsessed with transformer dresses. I have been on both the Henkaa and von vonni website and am not sure which to buy. Do you have any preference? based on things such as colour, fabric, fit ect?

    Thankyou

  5. I’m nervous about ordering the longer Von Vonni’s because I’m on the shorter side (5’3″ish) and they always skim the floor on the 5’9″ models! Do you have this problem with the longer dresses where they’re trailing on the floor? Can I ask your height?

    1. hi Dee, I am also 5″3″ ish and the Von Vonni dresses (the long ones) were too long for me. I took mine to my local tailor and asked them to please cut them to fit. I think it cost about $10 and now they fit perfectly. The tailor will even ask if you want it hemmed (at an additional cost). I left mine unhemmed.

  6. Love these dresses! and they look great on everyone. I used them for my bridesmaid dresses from a company called Nuova Vita http://www.nuovavita.com and they were perfect for my wedding. Everyone loved them and we received so many compliments on them. Plus they can wear them again. I have had so many of my bridesmaids tell me that they have worn the dresses already. Best dress and so much fun to play with!
