To be honest, this outfit was not technically my idea. That morning, I saw this post from the Thread Affect and was instantly inspired. I didn’t have the camo pants or black sweater so I made do. My biggest eureka moment was that chambray can be worn throughout the year, and can be layered for fall or winter!

Hope you’re all having a great week so far. Tomorrow is HUMP DAY!

operation clean closet

Over the past few weeks, I had developed a serious disdain and anxiety over how messy my closet closets had become. I had my purses all over the closet floor, shoes everywhere, coats strewn all over the coat tree, and dust bunnies the size of my cats. Yesterday I decided enough was enough and I spent several hours organizing and cleaning my closets.

My biggest problem area was the purses, I didn’t have a proper place to store them and didn’t have all of them in one area/closet. I didn’t want to spend any money on a closet organization system or shelves because eventually I want to invest in a legitimate organizational system from Ikea. Because our house was built in 1961, it lacks the modern walk-in closet. So I know I have to make the most of the small closets that we do have.

here’s what I ended up with. I took 2 plastic bins/storage boxes that I already had, turned them on their side, and used them as “purse cubbies” on the top shelf in the closet:

closet organizationSorry, I should have taken a BEFORE photo!

Here is my “dress” closet before, with all the shoes and stuff all over the floor. WHAT A MESS!

closet organization afterHere’s the hall closet where I keep most of my winter and rain coats and jackets. I hung most of my coats up and put up my carry-on luggage on the top shelf:

closet organization afterMy closets are definitely a work in progress but right now I’m very happy to have all the clutter off the floor and have a dedicated place for my purses.

Now I’m wondering if any of you have any issues with closet organization and what solutions you have or use! Please share your ideas below!

thrift style thursdays – plaid

thrift style thursday - plaid
OK this might be a shock to some of my readers but – I do not have any plaid in my closet. That’s right, NONE. Maybe because I wore a lot of plaid in the 90s and got really sick of it? I don’t know, really.

The closest I could find without going out and buying something was a jacket that I had purchased for my mom, that she ended up not wanting, that I was going to consign.

My idea with this outfit was that you could wear plaid with another print and not worry about clashing. What do you all think?

Here goes…
thrift style thursday - plaid thrift style thursday - plaid thrift style thursday - plaidWow, I look really tired in these pictures, and I’m trying not to draw attention to a massive cold sore on my lip. That’s what happens when you fly to Los Angeles for a long weekend I guess – you get worn out!

Hope you’re all having a great Thursday!

thrift style thursdays – how to wear a scarf

Wearing my vintage silk scarf for a vintage-inspired nautical look

There are so many different ways to wear a scarf, and definitely no wrong way to wear one! Of course scarves can be worn on your head or as a belt, too!

Here are a few ways I like to style my scarves:

  • Layering
  • Adding an element of casual to an outfit
  • Warmth
  • Style element / neck jewelry
  • Adding a pop of color or print
  • Any combination of the above

Scarves-CollageAnd of course, my favorite place to find scarves is the THRIFT STORE! I hardly ever pay full price for my scarves, most of them are thrifted or gifted.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Thrift Style Thursday! Don’t forget to comment and let us know how you style your scarves 😉

And let’s not forget, this is a GROUP EFFORT!

black + blue

Fall is FINALLY upon us in NC and I couldn’t be more glad. I wore outfit this the other day. Nothing too exciting, but comfy and easy. I am a fan of black and blue.

Check out my brand new boots – they were a hand-me-down from a family friend who bought them and never used them so SCORE for me! AND the shirt is new too, I picked it up at a consignment store and with my consignors credit, it was free!
