2013: a year in fashion

Hi friends, thanks again for following, commenting, liking, and reading my silly little blog. I truly appreciate all the friendships that have blossomed just from blogging 🙂

This post is highlighting the best of 2013 outfits. I see a lot of “best of” and “worst of” lists this time of year, and I’m guilty of being a list junky too.

My favorite outfits of 2013:

2013 has taught me that you don’t have to have a lot of money to look fabulous – thrift stores, consignment shops, hand-me-downs, and sales were my friends this year 🙂 Also, it’s another year of reinforcing love for your body (regardless of what size you are). This is a lesson that I keep trying hard to not forget.

Anyways, I hope you all have a great new year’s celebration (or whatever you choose to do that night) if I don’t “talk” to you again.

Here’s to a happy and healthy 2014!

new year’s glitter! {thrift style thursday}

If there ever were a time when you’re encouraged to wear all the glitter, sparkle, sequins, etc in your wardrobe – it’s without a doubt New Years. I am still looking for that perfect shimmery sequin dress or top, so here I did my best with what I have and I think it turned out not too bad…what do you think?

What do YOU like to wear to ring in the new year? Are you a fan of glimmery things too? oh and just in case I don’t get to say it later, HAPPY NEW YEAR y’all! Whoa, it’a almost 2014 already?!?!?

happy holidays!

the #thriftstylethursday crew would like to wish a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy Healthy New Year 😉

It looks like we all did a pretty good job rustling up a collection of tacky Xmas sweaters. I couldn’t find one so I turned this theme into another DIY. I bought a sweater from Goodwill for and sewed on some holiday fabric. Then I glued on some sequin trim, a bow, and some bells. I didn’t really get to wear my sweater, though. Because it was in the upper 60s yesterday and today it was in the upper 70s and humid!!! I thought it was supposed to be December?

thrift style thursday – faux fur (diy)!

For this week’s theme, I didn’t have ANY faux fur in my wardrobe. I went thrift shopping but found nothing. So I decided to MAKE SOMETHING faux fur 🙂 I am so excited to share how this DIY Faux Fur Collar turned out.

thrift-style-thursday-faux-furIf you want to make the same one, go to BurdaStyle and create an account to download the free printable pattern and instructions. Fair warning, however: although this project was made for beginners, as a beginner I found it difficult.

I sewed a satin lining, added satin ribbon, and a vintage brooch too. Here’s how it turned out worn over a belted jacket and a blazer:diy faux fur collar - burda pattern diy faux fur collar - burda pattern diy faux fur collar - burda pattern diy faux fur collar - burda pattern diy faux fur collar - burda pattern IMG_2171 diy faux fur collar - burda pattern diy faux fur collar - burda pattern diy faux fur collar - burda patternThanks for reading and I do hope you check out this fun faux fur DIY/sewing project! If you’re a fan of faux fur that is. I bought way too much of the fur at Hancock fabrics so I plan on making another diy faux fur project, maybe a muff or a vest or an infinity scarf?

When hubby took the photos and I uploaded them to my laptop, I realized that the flash caused my bra to show through my black dress. Oh well. You live and you learn. I started to try and photoshop the photos but they looked kinda weird. I don’t have the PS skills to pull that off successfully…

Well, that’s it. It’s been a really busy week at work and as usual I’m stressed. Hope you’re all having a great hump day!
