my fashion philosophy.

OOTD black and greyThis is a post that I’ve been thinking about for quite some time. I started by pondering branding and brand identity. Then I asked myself “what is my blog about?” and from that I came up with my fashion philosophy.

1. you don’t have to be tall to look smashing.
2. you don’t have to be skinny to look chic (all bodies are beautiful).
3. you don’t have to be rich to dress well.
4. you don’t have to be young to pull off modern looks.
5. There’s nothing wrong with mixing the old with the new.
6. the only fashion rule is ~ “as long as it fits and makes you feel good”
7. there’s no such thing as being overdressed.
8. if you feel good on the outside, you can begin to feel good on the inside.
9. Be passionate but don’t take it too seriously! Fashion is meant to be fun and funny.
10. It’s OK to push your fashion boundaries and limits or to stick with your fashion comfort.
11. Quality over quantity.
12. It’s OK to borrow ideas and inspirations from others.

I think that’s the point of a fashion blog. To be able to have that dialogue.

What about you, friends? What is your fashion philosophy?

  1. Brilliant, thoughtful list! I love all of these and need to remind myself of them more often (as I’m getting into my 30s, I feel like there are a lot more unspoken rules about fashion and appearance which sometimes start to bog me down!). 😀

Great philosophy and way to prove that style and fashion isn’t all just vapid, mindless shopping!

    1. Thanks so much Rebecca! That’s precisely what I intended to do with this list. And I got tired with all these “rules” – who says you can’t do what you want to do? it’s rubbish 🙂 Also yes, fashion for me is like jewelry for your body, it’s fun, it’s artistic, and it SHOULD make you feel good about yourself! xo

  2. Oh goodness me…you have no idea how much I love this!!! I agree with every single one. I especially like #6…wear whatever the heck you want; trends, “rules” and criticism aside. Amazing job 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Justine! YES – #6 is the most important one to me. We’re confident women now, not adolescents. We wear what we wear. We feel good about what we wear. It’s time to love our bodies and not be ashamed to stand out. And also, we don’t have to have piles of money to look good 🙂

    1. Thank you so much! These ideas are more than 10 years in the making and I definitely stumbled and lost my confidence many times along the way. But It’s so liberating to be comfortable and confident with oneself, isn’t it? I’m not all the way there but I’m getting close. There are too many more important things in life to worry about, right? Fussing over fashion – “ain’t nobody got time for that!” lol.

    1. Thanks so much Jackie! I do wear a little wool occasionally (for some reason my St. John stuff doesn’t bother me as much as other stuff). And Yes, totally looking forward to winter being over. NC has been SO COLD and snowy this winter, no one here is used to it.
