Well, technically, this skirt isn’t new. It was previously a dress that my mama bought me many years ago. A few years back after spending the summer in storage, the dress emerged with all the elastic completely stretched out. It was kind of strange and disappointing because the dress wasn’t that old. I put the dress back in storage and only recently dug it back out (when my friend Melissa came over to help me de-clutter ).
Last week, I took it to my favorite tailor and had them turn an unwearable dress into a cute, comfortable skirt. Yeah!
Well, the moral of the story is don’t give up on an old (or new) article of clothing that you think is done for, because changes are a good tailor can breathe new life into it 🙂

Hi friends. Today I wanted to share with you my newly thrifted Halogen blouse and Old Navy polka dot cardigan that I picked up at Salvation Army over the weekend. Obviously one of my favorite things about thrift shopping is finding NEW clothes for a fraction of the price. This blouse, for example, was new with the tags still attacked – from Nordstrom – where this shirt cost a whopping $69. I only paid $5 for it. Win.
And a bit about neutrals. For the longest time I was dead set against neutral colors for clothes. Why? Because I thought they were a) boring and b) did not work with my skin color and clashed terribly. Recently, I found out how pairing neutrals with a pop of color (or not) can actually enhance my appearance instead of detracting from it. Now I love neutrals.
And another thing: These new styles of blouses that have a longer butt flap to cover your bottom – I am kinda liking it.
Do you like to wear neutrals to work or for whatever activity? Or do you prefer brighter colors?

I am normally NOT a fan of bugs. At all. But I do love a quirky print, and a bug print is pretty quirky. One of my favorite basics to wear to work is a nice button-down shirt (preferably ironed). So bugs + button-down = perfect workwear wednesday outfit. I’ve also tried focusing on basics in my closet – pieces like black skirts, black tank tops, etc. Here’s my favorite new basic black skirt with my sweet buggy shirt.

What are your favorite quirky prints? Would you wear them to work?

There’s something about ‘western wear’ that just screams rugged, outdoors-y, low maintenance, and comfortable. Perhaps it’s reminiscent of the American Southwest, Texas, or the south. My first pair of cowboy boots were purchased for a cattle drive trip to Montana with my friend Steph in 2007. While I am in no way rugged, outdoors-y, or low maintenance, I love being comfortable. Plus I like the history and stories behind a lot of the components of western wear.
For this work outfit, I put together a pair of ultra comfortable cowboy boots, a simple black tank, a simple cardigan, jeans, and a lovely Zuni turquoise necklace that hubby got me as an early anniversary gift (isn’t he sweet?). I feel special wearing something that was created with expert care and love by human hands. Overall, I felt chic and comfortable all day at work, which is always my goal for work outfits.
And as usual, Ulysses the Cat photobombs…
Do you like western-inspired pieces? If so, what are your favorites?

I’ve been wanting a jumpsuit for a while. The idea of wearing one thing and shoes and that’s it – well, it’s kind of like wearing a onesie or a nightie – and I like it. So when I forgot to skip the month for JustFab and ended up with a credit, I decided to give the JustFab Mandy Jumpsuit a try. It’s super comfortable and was a pleasure to wear to work.
My place of work is a pretty casual office, although I do like to dress up a tiny bit business casual. So yes, a jumpsuit is acceptable workwear 🙂 Plus I straightened my hair for the first time in a while and didn’t notice how long it had gotten!
