Monthly Archives: August 2015

august 2015 budget

Hi friends! I can’t believe August is almost over. I can’t say that I’m sad to see it go. I’m not in school so it’s not like my summer break is winding down. And summers here in NC are so unbearable for me that by the time August rolls around each year, I am so ready for fall that I start wearing fall clothes a bit too early for the south.

So, I went a little over-board this August. First, there was a lot of thrifting happening. Then, there was some regular new-stuff shopping. Here’s what I got this month.

  • Cat nightie $2
  • Lands End fleece pea coat $12
  • Vintage Dooney & Bourke bag (missing straps) $2
  • J. Crew ruffle tee, $1.50

    Not thrifted:

  • Frye boots $88 (I think they’re the Frye Veronica Short boots and I can’t believe I found them at Nordstrom Rack for that price…what a deal and I can’t wait to wear them! They’re originally $298!)
  • Costco jacket $20
  • Cat socks $7 from local boutique

Total spent = $203.06

SO…..I spent $203.06 this month but I made $190 selling stuff in ebay so really I didn’t end up going over my budget. After factoring in the money coming in, I only ended up spending $13.06!

Now it’s your turn to spill the beans…how did you do this month? Did you get any fall cool items?

As always, I’m linking up with Franish.

workwear wednesday: favorite work shoes

I’ve been into flats lately (well, for the last few years). During the hot North Carolina summers, I live in sandals, and these Born flower sandals are some of my favorites.

Don’t forget to check out Justine’s favorite work shoes on the Thrifty Girl’s Guide.

workwear wednesday: from day to night

Workwear-Wednesday---Day-to-NightHave you ever had to rush out after a long day at the office to go meet some friends for dinner and drinks or meet your honey at an event? If you have, then you know how annoying it is to have to either detour home for a complete wardrobe change or pack clothes to change at the office. My thought about this is with very minor changes, you can take an office ensemble to night time outfit in no time and with minimal effort.

In my example, I take my button-down shirt, vest, and skinny jeans and add a few accessories (and shoes) and let down my hair to turn it into something cute for going out to dinner or drinks.

Check out Justine’s gorgeous #WorkwearWednesday day to night outfit on the Thrifty Girl’s Guide!

Happy national thrift shop day!

Thanks to my friend Nicole who lovingly reminded me this morning, I didn’t miss National Thrift Shop Day. Thrifted this super cute outfit today (minus the bag). Gap straight leg jeans $5, Talbots sweater $4, wood bangles $3. Thrifted vintage Dooney bag last week for $2 and bought the handles off ebay for $13. Score!

Did you thrift anything today?

workwear wednesday: floral fun

I love fun prints and florals are no exception, especially during the spring and summer. Whether a fun floral print on a skirt, pants, jacket, or top, floral prints are an easy way to add visual interest to an outfit. I like to pair one floral piece with a solid color or another smaller print (such as thin stripes).

Here I’m wearing a Talbots floral print pencil skirt with a frilly J. Crew tee for Workwear Wednesday!

Also check out Justine’s take on the fabulous floral print at The Thrifty Girl’s Guide!
