Monthly Archives: September 2015

september 2015 budget

I’d like to share my best purchase this month–the only one that matters–A LEATHER JACKET.

I’ve been wanting one for years and I had just sold some more stuff on ebay and things were going on sale so I snatched this one up. It’s the Halogen Collarless Leather Jacket from Nordstrom. I’m so excited about this purchase that I didn’t bother to take pictures of the rest of my September purchases, because they don’t matter nearly as much.

September purchases:
1. Halogen Collarless Leather Jacket, on sale for $160 at Nordstrom (sold out)
2. Neiman Marcus stretchy jacket, thrifted $8
3. Alternative Apparel striped ombre tee, thrifted $1.50
4. Talbots summer shorts, thrifted $1.50
5. Talbots sleeveless button-down shirt, thrifted $3.59 {might give this to my mom}
5. Bobeau flow print top, thrifted $3.59 {worn here}
6. Ralph Lauren straight leg jeans, thrifted $3.59
7. Lovely handmade enamel necklace, $50 from local art show
8. Chaps plaid button-down shirt, thrifted $3.59
Spent = $235.36
Minus $38 from selling clothes and $135 from selling on ebay
TOTAL = $62.36 … not too shabby

How did you do this month?

As always, I’m linking up with Franish.

workwear wednesday – blazers for days

I absolutely love blazers. If you’re having a blah day and you basically wouldn’t mind wearing pajamas to work, you can put on a blazer and you’re instantly transformed into office chic. Throw on some jeans and any top (even a t-shirt) with a blazer for a put-together outfit that’s office appropriate but perfect for running errands or even date night.

Here I am rocking one of my favorite blazers, because it’s super soft and stretchy (yay for knit blazers), skinny jeans, and a flow-y top. Want to see what Justine wore for Workwear Wednesday? Check out her post!

workwear wednesday: favorite work bag(s)

Hi friends. Today, I’ll be sharing my favorite work bags (along with Justine from the Thrifty Girl’s Guide – so don’t forget to check out her post).

The truth is, I have A LOT OF BAGS. Too many bags (if there is such a thing). For example, here is just a sampling of just my vintage Dooney & Bourke bags. I have more that are not pictured.

And here is an older picture of my closet. As you can see, it’s a complete mess and I have too many bags shoved in there.My closet is a mess and full of handbags!

So even though I have so many purses, handbags, and totes, these Rough & Tumble bags have been my favorite work bags for the past few months. I use the little messenger bag as my purse (it’s also the perfect size for a tablet or ipad) and the larger tote bag as my laptop bag and catch-all for my lunch, kickball clothes, or whatever else. These bags are amazingly versatile and SO well-made (in the USA too) that I highly recommend them to anyone and everyone. Yeah, they’re a bit pricey but so worth saving up for.Rough & Tumble Designs - Market Tote & Messenger Bagmy-favorite-bags my-favorite-bags

**excuse the janky photos, I didn’t have time to take proper ones this week.

workwear wednesday: fun prints (lemons!)

I love a fun, quirky print and what better way to show off your silly side by wearing a shirt with fruit all over it? Today was a casual day at work since we were returning from a long holiday weekend and I wanted to keep it simple.

Dont forget to check out what Justine is wearing for this #workwearwednesday!

Henkaa Iris Convertible Dress for Date Night

Hi friends! I hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend! It’s not secret that I’m a huge fan of convertible dresses. This is my second post in the Henkaa Iris series (the first post can be found here) and this time I style the Iris dress for a date night with my sweet husband. Add a clutch, a fun necklace, heels, a jacket (optional) and voila – you’re ready for a night of fun!

This style is a halter dress and unlike my first Henkaa Iris review outfit which I wore with a regular bra, I wore this one with a strapless bra. I can do strapless for a few hours here and there, that’s why it’s perfect for a date night outfit. The dress is so versatile, you can wear it a bunch of different ways. I was a little worried about the amount of chest coverage I’d get from the Dotty style but I think it worked out great. I think halter dresses are so flattering on us curvy gals but look great on everyone!

The Henkaa Iris dress is SUPER comfortable because the fabric is so soft and smooth and has a bit of stretch. That means that no matter how you style the dress, you’re likely to be comfortable and able to walk, dance, or whatever you need to do. I can’t wait to wear this dress to a wedding in New Orleans in November, which goes to show you how versatile these convertible dresses are (Iris especially, because it does have sleeves).

I hope you liked this style as much as I did. What do you think?
