polka dot dress {a workwear wednesday post}

Like it’s any surprise to any of you that I love polka dots. So why not have another polka dot post? Wanna see more dots? Check out Justine’s WWW post here!

Now that it’s fall in NC, I can start wearing tights again, which I love! Thumbs up for not having to shave my legs every day, haha! So here I am wearing a super sweet polka dot Lands End dress that I found thrifting (surprise) plus leggings, boots, and the occasional cardigan.

sephora mini makeup haul

Hi friends, as some of you might know, I don’t usually post much (if anything) about makeup on the blog. I thought I’d give it a try though, because recently I’ve picked up a few items that I really like and I’d like to spread the word about them.

Here are my latest finds:

1. Make Up Forever Full Cover Concealer – $21

Sephora - Make Up Forever Full Cover Concealer

I needed a really good concealer because my lovely cat Ulysses accidentally scratched my chin and unfortunately, my skin scars quite easily. This is my first time trying the Make Up Forever brand and I’m impressed—this stuff is amazing. It goes on really thick but the coverage is really good and blends well with the rest of my face. I dab a bit on my chin and then a make-up sponge to smooth it and blend it a bit. It lasts almost all day (the bottle says that this stuff is waterproof). Worth every penny.

2. Sephora Outrageous Volume Dramatic Waterproof Mascara – $12

Sephora - Outrageous Volume Dramatic MascaraI have very fine, almost invisible (even though I have dark hair, go figure) eyelashes that love to clump together so I’m always looking for mascara that’s going to lengthen but not clump. I also desperately needed waterproof mascara. The one thing I like about this stuff is the brush, it does a pretty good job of separating my lashes. The formula is kind of messy—allowing for clumps and kind of making a mess during application. The verdict: not bad but I think there’s better mascara out there of us thin-lashed ladies. I don’t think I’ll buy it again.

3. Sugar Lip Treatment – Tulip – $22.50

Sephora - Sugar Lip Treatment in TulipThis might be my favorite purchase. I’ve been wanting a full-size Sugar tinted lip treatment ever since I tried the untinted and rose colors (they were a free birthday gift). I’m not much of a lipstick wearer so the idea of tinted lipgloss appeals to me. Sugar lip treatment smells good, doesn’t taste bad, and believe it or not, lasts a lot longer than I expect. It also has SPF 15 sunscreen, which I don’t really need since I don’t spend a lot of time outside while wearing makeup, but it doesn’t bother me. I’ve been wearing it pretty much every day for the perfect sheer color that’s just subtle enough to look natural but not too subtle–my hubby even asked me if I was wearing lipstick. Two thumbs up.

What about you, my friends? Any new makeup purchases worth noting? Do you have a favorite mascara you’d like to share? I’d love to hear from you.

workwear wednesday: chambray chic

I am slightly obsessed with chambray shirts – I may or may not have like 4 of them. I find chambray (or denim) shirts to be very versatile and work-appropriate whether you dress them up or down.

If you like chambray (and even if you don’t), you should check out Justine‘s workwear wednesday post!

can’t get enough polka dots (and orange cats)

I really really like polka dots. Polka dot blouses, polka dot tees, polka dot skirts – they’re all fabulous and I can’t get enough of them. So, imagine my extreme shock (and excitement) when I found this amazing polka dot blouse at the thrift store. I am completely smitten.

Here I am pairing my lovely dot blouse with a simple stretchy black skirt. This skirt actually used to be a dress. My mom bought it for me as a gift and when the all the elastic in the top part of the dress completely disintegrated, I couldn’t let it go, so I went to a tailor and had him make it into a skirt.

Also, how funny is Ulysses the kitty in these pictures?

happy plaid-day! {a workwear wednesday post}

Up until a few weeks ago, I had one plaid shirt. Now, I have two, and I’m sharing my favorite one today.

I wasn’t really a fan of plaid for a long time. I guess it reminded me too much of all the not-quite-cool clothes I wore in the 90s. A few years ago, I got a plaid vest and scarf and that’s when my dislike of plaid began to fade. I’m glad it did, because when done right, it’s actually a versatile, classic print that’s perfect for work ensembles.

Justine at the Thrifty Girl’s Guide is also sharing her plaid workwear wednesday outfit, so go check her out.
