workwear wednesday: a new skirt

Well, technically, this skirt isn’t new. It was previously a dress that my mama bought me many years ago. A few years back after spending the summer in storage, the dress emerged with all the elastic completely stretched out. It was kind of strange and disappointing because the dress wasn’t that old. I put the dress back in storage and only recently dug it back out (when my friend Melissa came over to help me de-clutter ).

Last week, I took it to my favorite tailor and had them turn an unwearable dress into a cute, comfortable skirt. Yeah!

Well, the moral of the story is don’t give up on an old (or new) article of clothing that you think is done for, because changes are a good tailor can breathe new life into it 🙂

workwear wednesday: bugs bugs bugs

I am normally NOT a fan of bugs. At all. But I do love a quirky print, and a bug print is pretty quirky. One of my favorite basics to wear to work is a nice button-down shirt (preferably ironed). So bugs + button-down = perfect workwear wednesday outfit. I’ve also tried focusing on basics in my closet – pieces like black skirts, black tank tops, etc. Here’s my favorite new basic black skirt with my sweet buggy shirt.

I’m linking up with Justine from Two Cent Chick, so get check her #workwearwednesday post!

inspired by the west

There’s something about ‘western wear’ that just screams rugged, outdoors-y, low maintenance, and comfortable. Perhaps it’s reminiscent of the American Southwest, Texas, or the south. My first pair of cowboy boots were purchased for a cattle drive trip to Montana with my friend Steph in 2007. While I am in no way rugged, outdoors-y, or low maintenance, I love being comfortable. Plus I like the history and stories behind a lot of the components of western wear.

For this work outfit, I put together a pair of ultra comfortable cowboy boots, a simple black tank, a simple cardigan, jeans, and a lovely Zuni turquoise necklace that hubby got me as an early anniversary gift (isn’t he sweet?). I feel special wearing something that was created with expert care and love by human hands. Overall, I felt chic and comfortable all day at work, which is always my goal for work outfits.

And as usual, Ulysses the Cat photobombs…

radiant orchid – WHAT? it’s just a pretty purple {thrift style thursday}

I’m not sure if it’s actually Pantone’s Radiant Orchid, but this purple-y color is a color that I really love to wear. Pantone named it the color of the year for 2014.

Here’s a skirt…

put a cat on it {thrift style thursday – bags}

I am a firm believer that things are better with cats on them, including handbags. I have many purses/handbags but this one is one of my favorites (for obvious reasons) even though I don’t use it much, mainly because I’m scared it’s going to get dirty.

thirft-style-thursday-bagsThe story behind the bag is funny. My hubby actually tracked it down for me via Craigslist because when I went to Target on the day the Jason Wu for Target collection launched and all the cat bags were gone.
