nice & nautical {workwear wednesday}

Well, it has been a veritable whirlwind these past few weeks with class, work, many wonderful visitors in town, and kickball season. That means that my blog has been slightly neglected and I haven’t had time to take outfit photos for the past few weeks.

That being said, the nautical look is one of my favorites for summer and so I’ve got a few outfits from the past that I can bring back into rotation. Nautical clothes make me think of summertime, the beach, and a little preppy. I love stripes, the colors blue, white (and sometimes red), and nautical prints like anchors.

Do you like nautical styles? Would you wear them to work?

workwear wednesday: red & navy

Hi friends! I’m trying to get back in the habit of posting a weekly outfit post that I call Workwear Wednesday, with the help of my good friend and fellow blogger Justine of The Thrifty Girl’s Guide.

A little background info: I work at a small-ish tech company that is extremely casual (as I’ve noticed of newer companies – they never have a dress code) so it’s often difficult for me to get dressed up for work all the time when everyone else is wearing jeans and tees. I do have a lot of more formal office clothes though, so I’m taking the weekly Workwear Wednesday post as an opportunity to wear my nicer work outfits.

Here’s what I wore to work yesterday:

nice & nautical {thrift style thursday}

Well, it’s no longer Thursday but better late than never! I couldn’t let this TST go by without participating because I love the nautical theme. I decided to really have fun with this theme and go for a little more costume-y. I even wore my outfit to work and got a few complements. It was a rainy, stormy day, so the outfit kind of made sense, especially with my polka dot rainboots.

Then my mom surprised me quite a bit when she said she wanted us to take a “selfie” – I had no idea she knew what that meant. 😉 How silly.
Here are some more nautical-ish outift I’ve worn before –

thrift style thursdays – how to wear a scarf

Wearing my vintage silk scarf for a vintage-inspired nautical look

There are so many different ways to wear a scarf, and definitely no wrong way to wear one! Of course scarves can be worn on your head or as a belt, too!

Here are a few ways I like to style my scarves:

  • Layering
  • Adding an element of casual to an outfit
  • Warmth
  • Style element / neck jewelry
  • Adding a pop of color or print
  • Any combination of the above

Scarves-CollageAnd of course, my favorite place to find scarves is the THRIFT STORE! I hardly ever pay full price for my scarves, most of them are thrifted or gifted.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Thrift Style Thursday! Don’t forget to comment and let us know how you style your scarves 😉

And let’s not forget, this is a GROUP EFFORT!

happy friday! summery dress + high heels

Here I am again trying to wear my summery dresses before it’s too late for the season. I felt very “resort-chic” in this dress, probably because of the shoulder-bearing sleeves + heels.

Speaking of heels, I found out yesterday after years of back pain, that I have 2 bulging discs in my lower back. I am not sure what this will mean for me, although I understand that many many people have them and go on to live normal lives. But I am weary that high heels will make the discs worse, so I’ve decided to wear them only very sparingly.
